The group is led labour attorney Lucas Middlebrook by baseball agent Jeff Borris and economist Andrew Zimbalist. Here is what the press release had to say. “PFA will not only be a union of fighters, but it’ll be governed exclusively by fighters, but it’s the fighters who will control their own futures. The PFA has also obtained the support of NBAPA, NFLPA, NHLPA, the MLBPA and MLSPU. I’ve been blessed to represent elite athletes for nearly 40 decades, and believe more than ever in the benefits of collective bargaining to secure and enhance terms and conditions of employment, that’s why I fully support and encourage efforts of the fighters to organize a union to represent them.” Said current NHLPA executive director Donald Fehr. So as to form a union UFC fighters are independent contractors and would have to challenge that status.
